How to Set Up MIDI in “Robotic” Mode

🎛️ About Robotic Mode

Robotic Mode in MetaPitch locks your vocal (or any audio signal) to a fixed pitch, giving it a signature "robot voice" effect. Instead of following the natural movement of the original melody, the pitch stays exactly on the note you set — either manually with the Note knob, or dynamically by playing MIDI notes.

By sending MIDI into MetaPitch, you can control the pitch in real-time, either by playing a MIDI keyboard live or by programming MIDI notes in your DAW. This gives you full creative control to choose the exact notes and melodies you want your vocal to follow, opening up endless musical and sound design possibilities. 🎶

Sending a MIDI signal to MetaPitch differs depending on your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Below are the setup instructions for the main hosts. 🎛️

Ableton Live

  • Insert MetaPitch onto an audio track.
  • Create a MIDI track.
  • In the MIDI track’s Output dropdown menu, select the audio track where MetaPitch is inserted, then select MetaPitch itself below.

Cubase

  • Insert MetaPitch onto an audio track.
  • Create a MIDI track.
  • Select MetaPitch in the Output section of the MIDI track.

Logic Pro

  • Insert the audio file you wish to process onto an audio track.
  • Create a new Instrument track and click the Instrument slot (not Audio FX).
  • Insert MetaPitch from the list of AU MIDI-controlled effects, then select your original audio track in the Side Chain menu (top-right of the plugin window).
  • Mute the original audio track so you only hear the output of the Instrument track where MetaPitch is loaded.

Pro Tools

  • Insert MetaPitch onto an audio track.
  • Create a MIDI track.
  • Set the Output of the MIDI track to the desired MetaPitch channel.

Reaper

  • In Reaper, you can superimpose a Media Item (audio file) and a MIDI Item onto the same track.
  • Add MetaPitch to the FX of this track.

Studio One

  • Insert MetaPitch onto an audio track.
  • Create an Instrument track.
  • Select MetaPitch in the Output section of the Instrument track.
  • If you’re using a MIDI controller, select your MIDI Device in the Input section of the Instrument track.
