How To Rescan Virtual Tape Machines (VTM) In Logic Pro

The video above uses FG-X 2 and Fresh Air as examples, but the same steps apply to Virtual Tape Machines (VTM).

If Virtual Tape Machines (VTM) fails validation in Logic Pro, open the Plug-in Manager from the Settings menu (called Preferences in older versions of Logic Pro). Then, select Slate Digital in the Manufacturers section.

NOTE: Please ensure your Virtual Tape Machines license is activated within the iLok License Manager app.

๐Ÿ”„ Next, select Virtual Tape Machines in the plugin list (if other plugins also failed validation, hold the Command key (โŒ˜) and click each one to select them together). Once selected, click Reset & Rescan Selection and wait for the validation process to complete. This could take several minutes.

ย After validation completes, open Virtual Tape Machines on a track to verify that it is working properly on your system.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Additional Troubleshooting

If Virtual Tape Machines continues to fail validation:

  • Ensure the iLok License Manager app is up-to-date.
  • Try "synchronizing" your iLok dongle: right-click the iLok icon on the left side of the manager and select Synchronize.
  • Note: You must be signed into the manager to perform this action.

After synchronizing, try rescanning Virtual Tape Machines in Logic Pro again.

TIP: If your Virtual Tape Machines license is activated via Machine Activation (on your computer), try deactivating and reactivating it.

Please make sure Logic Pro is closed. Then:

  1. Open the iLok License Manager and ensure it is up-to-date.
  2. Click the Computer icon in the left column.
  3. Right-click your Virtual Tape Machines license and choose Deactivate.

After deactivation, drag the license from the Available tab onto the Computer icon to reactivate it.

Once completed, reopen Logic Pro and rescan Virtual Tape Machines in the Plug-in Manager again.

NOTE: If you can't find Virtual Tape Machines in the Plug-in Manager, please verify it's installed by navigating to the /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ folder. If it's installed there, click Full Audio Unit Reset at the bottom of the Plug-in Manager. This resets and rescans all of your Audio Unit plugins the next time Logic Pro launches, so it may take some time to complete.
