With the growing adoption of ARM-based processors, you may have noticed new Windows devices running on Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, offering better energy efficiency and battery life. As exciting as this sounds, there's a significant caveat for professional audio users: software compatibility.
At present, Slate Digital plugins are not compatible with Windows systems running on ARM - such as Snapdragon - processors. If you are a Windows user and rely on Slate Digital plugins, we recommend continue using devices with Intel or AMD processors. Mac users can continue to use Slate Digital plug-ins on either Intel or Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3) computers as Slate Digital plug-ins are already compatible with both.
ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) is a processor architecture different from the x86 architecture commonly found in most Windows PCs powered by Intel and AMD chips. ARM processors have long been used in mobile devices, but now they’re being integrated into desktops and laptops for improved performance and power efficiency. Windows Copilot systems using Snapdragon processors exemplify this shift, blending energy savings with advanced AI features.
We’re actively exploring ARM-based solutions for Windows users. But to avoid interruptions to your work right now, Windows users should stick with x86 architecture to ensure smooth, reliable performance for audio projects.
