What is the ML-2A?

The ML-2A is Slate Digital’s latest small-diaphragm condenser modeling microphone. It is the successor to the legacy ML-2 and represents a major upgrade in both hardware design and software capabilities when used with the Slate Digital Virtual Microphone System (VMS).


Can I use the ML-2A in Virtual Mix Rack?

No. The ML-2A is designed to be used with the Slate Digital Virtual Microphone System plugin and its extended feature set. It is not supported in Virtual Mix Rack.


Is the ML-2A sold as a single microphone or a pair?

The ML-2A is available as a matched stereo pair. At this time, it is sold as a pair only and cannot be purchased individually.


What types of recordings is the ML-2A best suited for?

The ML-2A is designed for a wide range of studio and performance applications, including:

  • Overhead drum microphones

With the -20 dB pad engaged, the ML-2A can handle sources up to 156 dB SPL without distortion.


Does the ML-2A include onboard switches?

Yes. Each microphone includes:

  • A 2-position pad switch (0 dB / -20 dB)
  • A bass roll-off switch (HPF) @ 80 Hz, 6 dB/Oct

What is the self-noise rating of the ML-2A?

The ML-2A has a self-noise rating of 16 dB (A-weighted).


Does the ML-2A require phantom power?

Yes. The ML-2A requires standard 48 V phantom power.


How many microphone models are included?

The ML-2A includes 36 microphone models out of the box when used with the Slate Digital VMS software, including the Radio France Instruments and Drum Pack collections.


What new VMS software features are supported with the ML-2A?

When used with the updated VMS software, the ML-2A supports:

Does the ML-2A come with a warranty?

Manufacturer warranty coverage is 2 years from the original purchase date. Additional coverage may vary by dealer and region. Please check with your authorized dealer for full warranty details.


Is the original ML-2 discontinued?
