How To Conduct A Null Test

If you're having trouble hearing the differences between microphone models, we suggest performing a null test as shown in the video above.

Optimal Recording Levels

The Classic Tubes microphone models are calibrated so that an input signal peaking around -12 to -10 dBFS will most accurately match the tone of the original microphones.

You can use the Trimmer module in Virtual Mix Rack before the Classic Tubes module to monitor or adjust your input level during recording—or tweak it later during mixing.

For creative effect, you can also drive the Classic Tubes module harder to introduce more harmonics and subtle tube saturation. The Intensity knob will further enhance these characteristics.

System Setup Tips

Make sure your microphone system is set up properly and that you're using the correct cabling. We also recommend reviewing the user manual for your audio interface, as well as the full user guide for the virtual microphone system, available here.
