Starting today, the modules from the Virtual Mix Rack (VMR) are being released as standalone Virtual Modules (VMs) that you can load directly into your DAW. This means you can skip the Rack when you just need one specific module, keeping your workflow quick and flexible. 🔥
This does not mean the Virtual Mix Rack is going away. VMR remains a powerful way to build, recall, and discover mix chains. With the release of VMs, you now get the best of both worlds: the ability to use the modules inside VMR and as standalone plug-ins.
All of this is included for subscribers, and perpetual license customers get both the VMR and Virtual Module versions of their purchases (retroactively applied to past purchases). Just open Complete Access Hub (formerly known as Slate Digital Connect) to install whichever combination you need.
We are releasing Virtual Modules in batches. The first batch includes Virtual Console Collection and FG-Stress, with more modules arriving weekly. Be sure to check Complete Access Hub each week for the latest releases.

Frequently Asked Questions
❓ What are Virtual Modules?
Virtual Modules (VMs) are standalone plug-in versions of the modules from the Virtual Mix Rack. Instead of always loading the full VMR, you can now insert just the specific module you need directly in your DAW.
❓ Do Virtual Modules replace the Virtual Mix Rack?
No. VMR is still available and remains a core part of the Slate Digital ecosystem. VMR is best when you want to create, recall, or experiment with full channel strip chains. Virtual Modules give you a faster option for when you only need a single module.
❓ Is there a performance benefit to using Virtual Modules over VMR?
From our internal tests, CPU usage is about the same whether you’re using a single VM or the full VMR with just that one module loaded. The real benefit of VMs is workflow clarity and flexibility. For example:
- You can see exactly which module is in your chain without opening VMR.
- You can insert third-party plugins between modules more easily (e.g., insert SSL 4K G between a mic module and a compressor).
- You avoid clutter when only using one or two modules.
❓ Can I move settings between VMR and the new Virtual Modules?
Yes! You can easily save and load presets between the Rack and VM versions:
- Save a preset in VMR using Save Preset As.
- Give it a name.
- Open the same module as a VM and load the preset.
This works in both directions (VM → VMR or VMR → VM).
❓ What’s a common use case for Virtual Modules?
One common use case is when you want to combine VMR modules with third-party plugins. For example:
- Load a mic module (VMR or VM).
- Insert a third-party EQ (e.g., SSL 4K G).
- Follow it with a VMR compressor or a VM version of the same compressor.
Previously, this would require multiple VMR instances, which made your DAW’s channel strip unclear. With VMs, you can keep your workflow clean, and always see exactly which plugin is loaded.
❓ Who gets access to Virtual Modules?
- Subscribers: Automatically get access to all VMR modules and their VM versions.
- Perpetual license holders: Get both the VMR and VM versions of any modules they own, including retroactively for past purchases.

❓ How will modules be released?
