Symptom
When you open a plugin in Logic Pro, the plugin window opens and shows the plugin's name at the top, but the rest of the interface is completely blank or black. No knobs, controls, or meters are visible. Audio still passes through the plugin normally; only the visual interface fails to load.
This can affect Slate Digital plugins as well as plugins from other developers on the same system, and it typically shows up around the time of a macOS update (including recent macOS Tahoe releases).
Quick fix
In the cases we've investigated, this has been caused by having more than one copy of Logic Pro installed on the same Mac — for example, one in your Applications folder and a separate, full copy elsewhere (such as on your Desktop or in your Downloads folder).
To resolve it:
- Check your Desktop, Downloads folder, and any external or backup drives for another copy of Logic Pro.app.
- If you find one, delete it completely.
- Reinstall Logic Pro fresh from the Mac App Store, making sure it installs only into your Applications folder.
- Restart your Mac.
- Reopen your project and test the plugin again.
A shortcut is fine
One quick note: it's completely fine to have a Logic Pro shortcut on your Desktop or anywhere else, as long as it's just an alias pointing back to the copy in your Applications folder. You can actually drag and drop Logic Pro from the Application folder, and macOS will create an Alias automatically. See below:
The issue is specifically when there's a separate, full copy of Logic Pro somewhere else on the Mac, especially if it's a different version that's no longer being updated along with the main copy in Applications.
Not sure if what you have is an alias or a full copy? Select it in Finder and press Command + I. An alias will say "Alias" right under the name and list the original file's location; a full copy will show a regular file size and application details instead.
If this doesn't resolve it
If you've confirmed there's only one copy of Logic Pro on your system and you're still seeing blank plugin interfaces, please reach out to our support team and include:
- A screenshot of the affected plugin window
- Your macOS version (Apple menu > About This Mac)
- A full system report: Apple menu > About This Mac > System Report > File > Save, then attach the saved file to your message
