With the recent addition of Machine-ID as a valid activation location for Slate Digital plugins through iLok, we've received a few questions—particularly regarding older, legacy products like the original FG-X.
If you're wondering whether the original FG-X can be activated to Machine-ID, here's what you need to know:
🛑 The Original FG-X is Not Compatible with Machine-ID
The original FG-X plugin is a legacy product and does not support Machine-ID activation. Even though you might see Machine-ID as an available location in iLok License Manager, that support only applies to the newer FG-X 2 plugin. Please see: https://slatedigital.com/legacy-products/
✅ Good News: Your FG-X License Unlocks FG-X 2
If you own a license for the original FG-X, you already have access to FG-X 2. You won’t see a separate license for FG-X 2—the same license authorizes both versions.
So while Machine-ID activation won't work for the legacy FG-X plugin, you can use that license to activate FG-X 2, which does support Machine-ID. More information about the free upgrade from FG-X to FG-X 2 can be found here ➡️ FG-X & FGX-2 Frequently Asked Questions
Reminder: We recommend using FG-X 2 for improved performance, updated compatibility, and ongoing support.

Activate to Machine-ID:
Right-click the ‘FG-X Virtual Mastering Console’ license and select Activate. You should now see Machine-ID as a valid location, along with iLok Dongle.
