If you've purchased a new computer and want to move your licenses, you have a few activation options to choose from: iLok Cloud, iLok USB (2 or 3), or directly to your computer using Machine-ID activation. The steps you'll need to follow depend on which method you’re using.
If your previous machine no longer works or you can’t access it, don’t worry—you can still reactivate your licenses. As long as your licenses are not tied to a lost iLok dongle or lost computer, you can easily move them to your new setup using iLok License Manager. In the event your licenses are tied to a lost computer or iLok dongle, please continue reading to learn what steps to take in this situation.
iLok Cloud
If your All Access Pass (or Fresh Air) license is activated via iLok Cloud, this means your iLok Cloud session is still open on your previous computer. Install the latest version of the iLok License Manager if you haven't already, then log in with your iLok ID and open an iLok Cloud session. Refer to the GIF below to do this:
Machine-ID (Local Host)
If your licenses are activated by Machine-ID, this means that they are tied to a specific computer. To move them to a new machine, you’ll first need to deactivate them from the old one using iLok License Manager application.
✅ If you still have access to the old computer:
- Open iLok License Manager on the old computer.
- In the left sidebar, locate and click the Machine-ID icon (it looks like a computer).
- You’ll see all the licenses currently activated to that machine.
- Select the licenses you want to move (use Shift + click to select multiple).
- Right-click and choose Deactivate.
This will return your licenses to the Available section of your iLok account.
- Now, on your new computer, install and open iLok License Manager:
👉 Download iLok License Manager - Sign in to your iLok account.
- In the Available tab (or select View > Available Licenses from the menu), you'll see your deactivated licenses.
- Select the licenses you want to activate, then right-click and choose Activate, or drag and drop them onto the new computer’s Machine-ID icon in the sidebar.
🚫 If you do not have access to the old computer:
If the old computer is lost, broken, or otherwise inaccessible, you can submit a reset request using iLok License Manager:
-
On your new machine, open iLok License Manager and sign in.
-
Locate the greyed-out Machine-ID for the old computer in the left sidebar.
-
Right-click it and select "Report as Unusable."
-
A form will appear asking you to confirm the reset and provide a brief reason.
-
Check the confirmation box acknowledging that this action is permanent and irreversible, and click Submit Request.
Once submitted, your request will be reviewed:
-
Some publishers process reset requests automatically.
-
Others may require manual approval by a support agent.
After approval, the affected licenses will be returned to your Available pool, and you’ll be able to reactivate them on your new machine.
⚠️ Important: Only use the “Report as Unusable” option if you no longer have access to the old computer. This action cannot be undone.
iLok Dongle
If your license is activated to a physical iLok 2/3 dongle, the only thing you need to do is connect your iLok dongle to your new computer and install the latest version of the iLok License Manager.
Lost iLok USB? Here's What to Do
