How To Move a License from an iLok Dongle to Your Computer (Machine-ID)

Overview:
If you currently have your Slate Digital license activated to an iLok dongle and would prefer to use your computer (Machine-ID) instead, this guide will walk you through the process of transferring your license.


🔄 Step-by-Step: Moving a License from iLok Dongle to Your Computer

1. Plug in Your iLok Dongle

Make sure your iLok USB dongle is connected to the computer you’d like to use. This is mandatory to access and transfer the licenses.

2. Open iLok License Manager

If you don’t already have it, download the iLok License Manager here.

3. Locate Your iLok Dongle

  • On the left-hand sidebar, find your iLok dongle under “Locations.”

  • Click on the dongle to view all licenses currently stored on it.

4. Deactivate Licenses from the Dongle

  • Select the license(s) you’d like to move.

    • Tip: Hold Shift and click to select multiple licenses at once.

  • Right-click on your selection and choose “Deactivate”.

  • Your licenses will now move to the “Available” section of the License Manager.

5. Activate Licenses to Your Computer

  • Use the “View” menu at the top of the window and select “Available Licenses.”

  • Find the licenses you just deactivated.

  • Right-click each one and choose “Activate.”

  • This time, when prompted to choose an activation location, select your computer (Machine-ID) instead of the dongle.

  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation.

Machine-ID Activation ties your license directly to your computer, making it ideal for users who don’t want to rely on a USB dongle or the iLok Cloud.

🔒 How It Works:

  • The license is stored locally on your machine.

  • Once activated, you don’t need an internet connection to use your plugins.

  • Internet is only required for periodic tasks, like subscription renewals (e.g., All Access Pass).


🔁 Need to Move the License Again?

To move the license in the future, you’ll need to deactivate it from the same computer.

⚠️ Note: Remote deactivation is not supported.
