How To Move a License from iLok Cloud to your Computer (Machine-ID)

If you're looking to move your license from the iLok Cloud to your local computer (Machine-ID), this guide walks you through the entire process—whether you're using Automatic Mode or Manual Mode.


🔍 Step 1: Check Your iLok Cloud Mode

There are two iLok Cloud modes:

  • Automatic Mode (A)
  • Managed/Manual Mode (M)

To check which mode you're using:

  1. Open iLok License Manager.
  2. Locate the iLok Cloud Session icon on the left panel.
    ◉ Make sure the iLok Cloud session is open on your current machine (File → Open Your Cloud Session).
  3. You’ll see either an “A” or an “M” indicating your current mode.

You can also click “Show Details” at the bottom right of the window to see your Cloud Session info. It should look something like this:

🔁 Step 2: Deactivate Your License from iLok Cloud

➤ If You're Using Automatic Mode:

  1. Go to the File menu at the top.
  2. Select "Close Your Cloud Session".
  3. This will deactivate all Cloud-activated licenses and make them available again.

➤ If You're Using Manual Mode:

  1. Click the Cloud icon in the left panel.
  2. Select the licenses you want to deactivate.
    ◉ Use Shift + Click to select multiple.
  3. Right-click and choose "Deactivate".

✅ After either method, your licenses will move to the “Available” section.


🎯 Step 3: Activate the License to Your Machine-ID

  1. From the top menu, go to View → All Licenses.
  2. Find the license(s) you just deactivated.
  3. Right-click and choose "Activate".
  4. Select your computer as the activation location.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
